Memories of Cuff's

Linda and I, as well as our Mum, Peggy, used to work at Cuff’s department store in Woolwich.  It was there that Linda and Tony met.  Cuff’s was a real “Are You Being Served” sort of place and our family have some wonderful memories of our time working there.  Tony also met Ron Adams at Cuff’s and Ron and his wife Sue became longstanding family friends.

Tony was a skilled carpenter and a creative person who loved to make things so what better way to demonstrate this than by making a present for the woman on whom he had set those blue eyes of his! He made a foot rest for Linda to keep under her desk and delighted her when he presented it to her with the comment that it was “For the best legs in Cuff’s!”

On another occasion Tony happened to be working in the same department that Linda was in and another member of staff complimented Linda on the pretty red and white dress she was wearing.  She asked Tony if he agreed that Linda was wearing a pretty dress and he said that he agreed.  It was only some time later that Tony confessed that the attraction of the dress at the time was not because my sister was wearing it but because it was red and white – Arsenal’s colours!
